Brad Pitt to design Dubai hotel

If you're a celebrity without your name on a building in Dubai, you're a loser

So, Brad Pitt is designing a five-star, eco-friendly luxury resort in Dubai. Pretty cool, huh? The resort - who's location is still yet unknown or unannounced - will have 800 rooms, a leisure center and will host star-studded parties and galas. Pitt gushed about his passion for architecture:

"While acting is my career, architecture is my passion. Selecting this development as my first major construction project has been a simple decision," he said.

"We will be unveiling precise plans in the next few months, but you can expect something that is not only stunning to look at, but will also be an incredible attraction to visit or stay at."

I guess I have to disclose that I'm a huge Brad Pitt fan. Sure, I tried hating on him after that Jennifer Aniston debacle, but I just can't help being a huge fan! I lurve him. He's so damn cute and it just gets to me. What can I say? I'm weak!

I supposes I could also start a rant about what little celebrities know and why value does it bring when they stamp their names on buildings and building projects. But, even the most cynical of cynics have to admit that Brad's done a lot of good with his construction endorsements and work in New Orleans and other places.

Furthermore, Dubai is the epicenter of celebrity real estate endorsements. Witness above a picture actually taken by moi (me!) in Dubai showing the upcoming Boris Becker and Michael Shumacker office centers. I'm not sure what the hell these sports dudes know about office buildings, but if that concept works I'll buy Brad Pitt designing a hotel. I do wonder if the Boris Becker Office Tower has a tennis court. If it doesn't, that's a gosh-darn shame.

I'll also state for the record that Dubai is a very unique experience - the indoor ski hill is a ton of fun. But if I'm being honest - and I always am - it's really more hype than reality at this point in time.

Unless someone is paying for your visit (i.e. your business because if you haven't been there for business yet, you probably will soon as everybody's getting an office there), I really can't recommend it's worth a trip to spend your hard earned pay. I highly suggest you wait until after 2010 when Dubai is on the downside of all that massive construction and they've - hopefully - done something about that awful awful traffic.

Trust me, the traffic is bloody awful. And to get from anywhere to anywhere else you'll end up getting caught in it.

That's my honest advice. And, who knows? Maybe Mr. Pitt's hotel will be open by the next time I go back! If I can get Brad to personally bring me some room service I'll pay $1 million for a night, I swear!!
