London travel: tour by zeppelin starting in July
Starting next month, you can take in the spectacular views of London by flying in a zeppelin airship. Yes, just like the old Hindenburg!
Starting July 10, German company DZR GmbH (doing business as Star Over London) will offer five trips a day and continue service through London's short sunny summer. There are three trip choices with all originating from Upminster (on London's far east side). The 30 minute trip (costing a skyhigh £185 or around US $370) will venture towards Greenwich Palace before returning back. The 45 minute trip will reach St. Paul's Cathedral. The 60 minute trip (costing £360 or around US $720) will reach as far west as Buckingham Palace before making it's return.
The zeppelin NTO7 is 75 meters long and carries 12 passengers and two crew (a pilot and a flight attendant). For reference, the infamous Hindenburg was well over three times larger. The technology has also improved since the Hindenburg's tragic 1937 flight over New Jersey - most notably that it's filled with non-flammable helium gas.
It sounds good to me. The views would be simply stunning and the experience one to remember. However, at US $12 per minute, I think I'll wait until the exchange rate is a bit more in my favor...or until someone else is paying!
