Has your laptop ever been stolen at an airport?

And I thought keeping track of my travel pirate was hard (and I'm pleased to report Travel Pirate 2.0 is still with us). Anyway, keeping track of a laptop on the road is more of a challenge.
According to a recent study by Dell Computer, 12,000 laptops are left behind, lost or stolen every week in US airports. Over 65% of them never see their owners again. That's absolutely shocking!

The attached video shows an airport laptop switching scam from a British television show I adore called The Real Hustle. It shows how scam artists can pretty easily steal laptops in airport security. There's an added complication in US airports by the rule of having to remove laptops from their carrier bags. So, I'm not sure how much of this scam could be replicated at US airports - but crime always finds a way, doesn't it?

I still wonder how so many laptops are being left behind...

I've often jokingly talked about the joys of losing my laptop, but in all honesty I'd be devastated. After reading this article and watching the clip, I vow to be more careful.
